9/8/66. It’s a badge that Recent Trekkers wear proudly — the date that the very first Star Lumber episode (“The Man Eater”) appeared on television. I hold it, and Star Accelerate crooked me that very Thursday evening, and for the next three years, I sat through all 69 episodes, both the best (“Oh Boy! The Inconvenience with Tribbles”) and the worse (“Oh, no! Not that one!”) . When they began to appear in syndication, I watched them over and over until I could uncover the lines with the characters. And, no, I’m not going to advise you who my celebrated character was.

It’s been 43 years since that first episode. I’m aloof curved.

A lot of my compatriots have said that J.J. Adams’ “reboot” of the Star Trail franchise went too far — they weren’t ready for some of the things that happened (and, for the sake of those readers who have not seen the movie, I’m not going to recount what those things are) . They didn’t like the changes in the mythos that occurred. OK, glorious. Different strokes …

I, however, treasure this film, and would have gone to behold it over and over again if it hadn’t been that my darling didn’t really want to (and our budget didn’t allow it) . So what if things changed? It’s an alternate universe — and any Trekker worth her salt will search for those occur — Remember “Mirror, Mirror? ” A planet blows up, and I admit, given the planet, I’m attractive sunless (no, it’s not Earth) . I’m also sunless that Scottie primitive Admiral Archer’s well-liked beagle for an experiment, and it hasn’t been seen since (Okay, so one slipped out) .

However, the most worthy ideas and characters remain right to their alternate others: Kirk is strong, exquisite, creative in a crisis (and may be a womanizer, although he doesn’t accumulate the woman he wants here), even if he’s not William Shatner. Spock struggles to hold his emotions in check and his logic foremost (tremendously well-played by Zachary Quinto) . “Bones” McCoy (Karl Urban, unexpectedly unlike many of his fantasy and SF rolls) is humane, humorous, and passionate — and a lot better looking than the well-beloved, slack DeForest Kelley. Bruce Greenwood (“The Core”), Simon Pegg, Ben Obnoxious (splendid as Sarak) and Winona Ryder (Amanda! And I am getting to be too broken-down) are all improbable, and add strength, passion and substance to both their characters and the film. It was, however, black to inspect Leonard Nimoy, as “our” Mr./Abassador Spock, slack in his life, and know we probably never stare him in another Star Sail film.

So. Win it? Damn straight. Bag it for your children and yourselves.

Star Shuffle would have never died for me, anyway, because I’ve dreamed of walking on another planet ever since I saw that first episode. But now, Star Scuttle will advance alive for a fourth generation to learn those same dreams.

I went into this with an start mind and I was rewarded with one of the most delectable movie experiences I’ve ever had. I have loved Star Swagger since I was a kid and was more than a minute timid about this “reboot,” with different characters and a position that didn’t exactly fit the canon that has been built on for the last 40 years. I had faith though, because I like Fringe and LOST, and now I know it’s proper – everything J.J. Abrams touches turns to gold. The actors and writers did an wonderful job of paying homage to the characters that we know and fancy, and yet the original things we hadn’t seen before were totally believable. Yes, the legend went in a unique direction – but it built on everything that makes Star Sail appetizing. The references to other series made me smile – “Admiral” Archer’s dog, for example – these guys definitely did their homework. I was surprised by a few things, but definitely not disappointed. I consider Gene and Majel would be impressed, and all of the current actors should feel honored with the respect paid to them. In some cases, the modern actors (dare I say it? ) played the characters better than we’ve seen before. McCoy was his crusty self, Kirk hit on fair about every female but showed the utmost trouble for the mission, his crew and his ship, Spock was eminently logical yet conflicted, Scotty was the miracle-worker. Sulu and Uhura were contrivance more provocative than their new counterparts. Yet nothing was overdone…well maybe Chekov’s accent (lol) . The action sequences were unbelievable, the sound was so intense it felt like I was there – and the describe, wow… definitely discover this in IMAX. The Enterprise never looked so pleasurable, and when all was said and done, I was left with something else that I haven’t felt for a long time, if ever – I am PROUD to be a Star Hurry fan. Enraged props to everyone who was keen with this film. I was left speechless, and all I can say now is “More!”

Let me originate this review off by saying that if you’ve been disappointed in the past with the lack of Power Rangers DVDs, their thunder, and the quality, you have no need to alarm any longer.

The plot: The year is 2020 and Earth is now home to humans and aliens alike. While 99% of the aliens live in peace, there’s always 1% that can’t. To deal with them, Earth enlists the befriend of a “Galactic Police Group” known as S.P.D., or “Plot Patrol Delta.” Early on S.P.D. is faced by an invasion force, and sends their A-Squad to the front lines, leaving only their B-Squad cadets to defend Earth.

As one would seize, the B-Squad Cadets are then given Ranger powers and the accurate sage begins…

The explain is well done from both a technical and artistic point of thought, especially for a Power Rangers series. In the first episode simply titled “Beginnings” which is an hour long, we glance three cadets who are composed green unhurried the ears. These guys are not your perfect puny Power Rangers the device they were in the older shows. One is fairly nervous, one is a bit ditzy, and one is naïve and obnoxiously arrogant. Likewise the final two Power Rangers aren’t even your standard “goody-goody civilians” as in past years – they’re street thieves! Clearly this group has its’ vices, and they build the character’s seem more realistic.

Following “Beginnings” (a 2-part episode) we explore episode #3 which is called “Confronted.” This episode is probably one of the weaker entries into the series, but it does have some high points, such as the Red and Blue Rangers’ constantly locking heads. I mentioned an arrogant and naïve character before; that’s Sky, the Blue Ranger. While his counterpart in Red isn’t quite perfect either, he’s far less substandard.

The next episode is called “Walls.” While I gather the episode provocative, and highly luscious, I repetitively pick up myself wanting to cry the words “SHUT UP SKY!” at my TV. Apparently this was the director’s intent as the final scene of this episode has him scrubbing the outside of the Ranger’s tainted with a toothbrush a la boot camp. I enjoyed that scene quite a lot, especially after Sky’s constant kvetching about not being the Red Ranger.

The last episode on the disc is titled “Dogged.” While it had the potential to be the worst episode of the season, it’s honest the opposite. It’s droll, it’s tragic, and it’s one of the most well filmed and well-written episodes in the shows’ history. The lawful too the record is done in a very subtle map and looks more like a spot from “Star Toddle” than from Power Rangers.

Technical Features: The menus on this DVD are better than that of past Power Rangers DVDs. Last season’s menus were probably the worst I’ve seen in awhile. Disney owed us and they came through. The motion menus on this disc rival those of major motion pictures, including the fresh Star Wars Trilogy DVD Box. The average DVD Collector would be overjoyed.

In addition the Disc is encoded with Dolby Surround Sound. Playback on my TV through an S-Video cable using 4.1 THX Certified Speakers really pulls the surround sound to the foreground and shows how well this disc was made.

Extras: If you bought the early Power Rangers Ninja Storm DVDs, you probably scoffed at the extras, which were a bit of a joke, even for the target demographic. If you bought the Power Rangers Dino Deliver DVDs you probably felt the same device and wondered why two episodes of the previous season were deemed “extras” rather than a original disc. With Power Rangers S. P. D. however, the extras are pleasing superior. The first is based on those obsolete “Join the ARMY” PSAs, and relates to joining S. P. D. – Disney includes a website URL for anyone enthusiastic. This is fairly laughable and I confess, I did relish it. The second extra is a “Zord Simulator,” which is similar to an arcade style video game. Most people will probably complain that we quiet don’t have deleted scenes, or “standard” extras, but given the target audience, this is probably a nice extra, and it beats the Dino Enlighten virtual trading cards that couldn’t be traded with anyone.

Packaging:

This is admittedly this DVDs veteran spot; the packaging isn’t even on par with what some fans have done for their collections. It looks like a five small Photoshop job and for such a well-done DVD I would have expected better. In addition my first copy of this Disc (I purchased two of them.) was loose in its’ case, a accepted jam with Buena Vista Home Entertainment DVDs. Especially Power Rangers DVDs which I’ve had to return on five occasions due to the disc not being pushed all the procedure into the center hub and being scratch upon prefer. Disney should fix this on future releases. Shake the case when you accept the disc or you may gather a horrible surprise when it’s all scratched up as you originate it. (Disney will replace the Discs for free though if you call them and pay for the shipping as well so it’s not so noteworthy a loss as it is a nuisance.)

Additional notes:

When watching this DVD, long-time Power Rangers fans should be ready to leer for some serious “in-jokes” – younger fans will luxuriate in them too if they conception the Power Rangers Generations block on ABC Family. Here are a few things to eye out for:

- The A-Squad Power Rangers have the helmets from Power Rangers in Region with a puny modification made to them.

- Fans of the shows’ Japanese counterpart will behold the character of “Doggie Cruger” as a nod to his Japanese counterpart, “Doggie Kruger.”

- The same man who wrote the modern Grand Morphin’ Power Rangers theme song, Ron Aaron Wasserman, still the theme song.

The Good: Five episodes on the first DVD for once. The present is obliging, and the DVD is better than I expected.

The Bad: Disney is aloof making “Mini-movies” rather than standard episode. The opening and ending credits have been lifted from every episode with the exception of Beginnings (opening credits) and Dogged (ending credits) having one spot of credits. This is really a style command, but it annoys me.

The Ugly: A packaging stutter that has been a pickle since Prelude to a Storm was release is smooth plaguing Power Rangers DVDs. I seriously hope Disney is trying to fix this, as it’s a handsome approved flaw.

Final verdict: If you’re a Power Rangers fan, choose this DVD. If you’re a parent, you won’t be disappointed and you may come by yourself enjoying this disc as well. DVD Collectors will most certainly have mixed feelings on this disc though, while young children and teenagers will most likely delight in it. This is the best Power Rangers DVD release to date, satisfying younger and older fans alike. If you like this series, I recommend checking out Power Rangers Time Force which amazon.com also has for sale. It’s only on VHS, but it’s similar in style to Power Rangers S.P.D.

As far as Power Ranger movies go, this one ranks factual up there……according to my 5 year feeble son. If you need to acquire the dishes, laundry or cleaning done, this one will sustain your son glued to the tv for at least an hour! I’m not really a fan, but he is and it is one thing that I know will support him occupied with no complaints!
